James O'Rourke Triathlon
The James O'Rourke triathlon in 2006 was my first triathlon, a "sprint" distance race. The sprint is the one of the shortest competitive triathlons. Most beginners start here, but even some professionals continue to compete in these types of races. The sprint consists of:- 500 meter swim
- 14 mile bike
- 5k (3.1 mile) run
I had a great time, met some really nice folks, and even plesantly surprised myself with my finish time:
1:23:34
(that's 1 hour, 23 minutes, and 34 seconds)
My Rankings:
- 9th of 25 (in 20-29 age category)
- 25th of 87 (all men)
Check out the O'Rourke Triathlon web site to see the offical results.
Setting up my station early Sunday morning
Nervous "chat" before the swim start
Trying to catch my breath after the swim
Rushing to get dressed before the 14 mile bike
Off I go on the bike
Legs feel like rubber after the bike, 3.1 mile run is next...
My buddy Joe Dill made the trip to North Platte with me. Thanks Joe...
